| ((LiveJournal, you @$%$^&ing b*st*ard!!! This is the THIRD time I've had to type up this same entry! Knock it the #$%^ off!!!))
Urgh... ::rubs her temples, extremely agitated:: LJ has deleted this entry in the middle of me typing it at least three times so far, so this entry is gonna be shorter & more descriptive than I wanted. I'm wicked sorry about this, but I'll try to add to it & make it better tomorrow - when I'm not so ready to destroy LJ with a large, firey sword of death. - EDIT: More info has since been added! Yay! (( And therefore, crossposted to misc. places)) ANYWAY - Here are the photos & notes about my work on FF8 Rinoa's weapon, the 'Shooting Star':

| The Good News- Chris got into the AB Cosplay Chess Match, and Anime Boston is in two days. YAY!!!
The Bad News- I'm still working on stuff for both my Rinoa & my Sakura costume at this point.
The Ugly- 1) I don't think I'm gonna be able to complete Rinoa's weapon (the 'Shooting Star') - not b/c of the time running out, but b/c I made it a little too big, and it's most likely not gonna fit in even my large rolling suitcase. ::imitates season 3 Blackadder:: "D*mn!!!" I may just leave it 1/2 done to fit in my suitcase, and finish hot gluing it when I get there. Ugh... man, what a pain..... 2) I still have a bunch of little things to do for my Sakura costume, and time is VERY quickly running out! If I get really desperate (which I'm beginning to be!), I may just end up hot gluing the d*mn thing together - which I don't want to do, because it might look cheap and it'll certainly feel cheap, but... I want it to be done! Waah! ::poutpout:: 3) I'm gonna have to bring my huge-*$$ rolling suitcase to Boston b/c of my costumes & stuff - and I have 2 classes to go to Thursday morning! Urgh!!! So I can either look retarded & wheel my mini-hearse into my classes with me..... or go to the Sheraton, see if they'll hold my suitcase for me for a few hours, probably be late for my first class, finish my 2nd class at about 12:20pm, go back to the Sheraton, and wait for Chris & Hill to arrive.
.............
::sighs:: .....Once again, nothing is ever easy.

| So - for the 'Shooting Star', all the cardboard 'wings' are cut out, and more cardboard was placed underneath them to help provide support & prevent possible bending. I used the older wings that I'd cut out first (the ones I was originally going to use, before I decided to improve the shape), so that way they wouldn't go to waste.
After hot gluing the old cardboard wings to the bottom of the new cardboard wings, I decided to put pieces of 3/16" wood dowel under the wing tips for extra support. .....I know no one's going to see the underneath of the wings, but they look quite odd, LOL. Then, I put white duct tape around the edges of the wings, to hide the brown edges of the cut cardboard. After that was done, I duct-taped the rest of the wing, so that it would look white. I've only gotten one wing done so far. I'll probably put pics up of them later.
Once I get home from school (where I am right now), I'm going to finish duct-taping the wings & wing edges white, and then I plan on gluing white feathers to the wings. After THAT is done, I can do the circular middle-part of the weapon that holds all the wings together, and then attatch some white elastic underneath, so I can wear the thing on my arm during the convention.
Phew! Overall though, so far so good! I'll keep everyone in touch! ^__^
(Even though no one probably even reads this thing, LOL!!!)

| (( cross-posted to the LJ communities 'cosplay' & 'ffcosplay')) I'm going to be cosplaying as Rinoa from 'FF8' to Anime Boston soon, and I recently decided to try & create her most powerful weapon: the 'Shooting Star'. Here's a ( small, luckily) reference pic: After a HUGE amount of searching, I found a few photos of other cosplayer's versions of this weapon. And this reference photo to the left is the biggest ( and best) pic I could find, so I used these all to help me get started. I'll put the rest under a LJ-cut, in case you guys aren't interested, lol: | |
|
| Along with working on my Sakura costume (which, unfortunately, hasn't progressed much since its last post, LOL), I also decided to start trying to make a version of Rinoa's ultimate weapon, the Shooting Star. I'll try to post some progress/reference pics later.
So far, I have some 'wings' cut out of cardboard, and I'm hoping to make those white soon. So... I'll try to keep everyone updated!
